Visiting Argentina

THE CAPITAL – BUENOS AIRES
The 3rd largest in Latin America with around 13 million inhabitants is a living blueprint for the grid system according to which the Spanish colonial administrators built their New World cities. Buenos Aires is a city of barrios (neighborhoods) in all 47 filled with museums, churches and monuments. Leafy tree filled parks are scattered all around the city and highlights the French styled architecture for which makes Buenos Aires famously known as the Paris of the South. It was once said that Argentina is actually the most American of all European countries. It’s a country with special character as could be seen in the Porteño, or native of Buenos Aires. An immensely enjoyable place just to wander about, stopping of for an expresso or an ice cream, or people watching, or shopping, or simple soaking up the atmosphere. It is also the country’s gastronomic hub and boasts a frenzied nightlife and makes it one of the world’s great around - the - clock cities.

WeatherBuenos Aires has an average temperature of 21.4ºC. Argentine Spring (September – November) is perfect. Summer (December – February) can be scorching and Winter somewhat bleak (July – August).
Language
Argentine Spanish known as Castellano and the official language is one of the most distinctive varieties of the language though you will come across English speakers.
Currency
The Argentine Peso is used and the exchange rate is currently at $3: U$D1.
Public Health
Travel in Argentina doesn’t raise any major worries and you are unlikely to encounter any serious problems. No vaccinations are necessary and tap water is generally safe to drink. Pharmacies are plentiful and wide rages of medicines are available without prescription. Emergency treatments at public hospitals are usually free.
Banks & Money
Banks are open from 10am – 3pm and bring along your passport. ATMs are plentiful and most credit cards like VISA, MasterCard and other cards linked with the Plus or Cirrus systems are accepted. Traveler’s cheques are also handy.
Transport
Public transport is fairly comprehensive and there is an efficient underground network. There are 2 main types of taxi, a regular urban taxi that you could flag down in the street that is fitted with a meter, or a minicab radio taxi called remises that you can book by phone.

Pretoria is a city located in the northern part of Gauteng Province, South Africa. It is one of the country's three capital cities, serving as the executive (administrative) and official de facto capital; the others are Cape Town, the legislative capital, and Bloemfontein, the judicial capital.
Pretoria is contained in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality as one of several constituent former administrations (among which also Centurion and Soshanguve), and therefore sometimes incorrectly referred to as Tshwane — this contentious issue is still being decided.
Pretoria is situated in the transitional area between the Highveld and the Bushveld, approximately 50 km north of Johannesburg in the north-east of South Africa. It lies in a warm, well sheltered, fertile valley, surrounded by the hills of the Magaliesberg range, 1,370 m (4,495 ft) above sea level. The city's coordinates are approximate 25°43 S, 28°17 E. Snow is an extremely rare event, which occurs once or twice in a century, with the last recorded snowfall on 27 June 2007.
